Air Force Chief Scientist Makes Presentation to Southern Miss Students

Dr. Barry Farmer, chief scientist of the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Materials and Manufacturing Directorate, visited the University of Southern Mississippi campus recently discussing advanced materials and their application, including being enablers for new technology and possible limiters for performance. 

Farmer had breakfast with graduate students from the College of Science and Technology and held an afternoon lecture for faculty, staff, and students. 

Farmer provided a a brief overview of the many materials research interests and needs for Air Force systems needs, and basic research to developmental programs, to manufacturing, and to sustainment of fielded systems.  Farmer discussed current research activities and opportunities for collaboration with AFRL.
