Tulio Sulbaran

Tulio Sulbaran, director of the Center for Logistics, Trade and Transportation (CLTT) at The University of Southern Mississippi, attended the 2012 Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) Research Needs Workshop. The workshop brought together transportation research stakeholders from government, universities and private industry to identify and discuss specific transportation needs in the state.

Sulbaran participated in three of the workshop's discussion groups, including Transportation Construction; Traffic, Safety and Intelligent Transportation System; and Intermodal Transportation of Freight and People. “I found the discussions to be very thoughtful and of benefit in organizing the research agenda of MDOT to positively impact the state and the region,” Sulbaran said.

Workshop participants were welcomed by Mike Tagert, North Mississippi Transportation Commissioner. Randy Battey, assistant chief engineer for operations with MDOT, also spoke to participants. Battey's remarks focused on transportation as the fuel fostering economic development, and encouraged research discussions that focused on practical and implementable ideas benefiting state taxpayers.
