College of Business Faculty Member Ernest King Dies

Dr. Ernest King, a professor of business ethics in The University of Southern Mississippi Department of Finance, Real Estate and Business Law, died Saturday, Jan. 28 at Wesley Medical Center in Hattiesburg. He was 52.
Services for King will be Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 1:30 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church in Hattiesburg, with burial to follow in Hattiesburg's Highland Cemetery. Visitation is at Moore Funeral Home of Hattiesburg today from 5-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
“We're deeply saddened at this loss,” said Dr Lance Nail, dean of the Southern Miss College of Business. “Ernie was a devoted educator and a tremendous asset to his department and to the college, as well as our community. But above all, he was a dedicated husband and father who put his faith and family first in his life."
King was a member of Temple Baptist Church, where he served as a coach of Upward Sports and as a Temple Media Ministry volunteer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Esther King.
He served as a thesis advisor to Southern Miss senior business administration major Jasmine Allen of McComb, who said King's background as an attorney further motivated her to pursue a career in corporate law.
“It was a blessing to have met him and have his guidance as a professor,” she said. “He was a great teacher who had a real talent for connecting with his students.”
Survivors include his wife, Kerri Ishee King of Hattiesburg; his daughter, Jessica Grace King of Hattiesburg; and his son, Ernest Wade King, Jr. of Hattiesburg.
