               Southern Miss' Hinton Receives Prestigious Honor at Conference

 Dr. Jeff Hinton, interim chairman of The University of Southern Mississippi Department of Child and Family Studies and associate professor of marriage and family therapy, was honored with the Outstanding Contribution to the Field and Practice of Marriage and Family Therapy Award at the 2012 Mississippi Association for Marriage and Family Therapy annual conference.

Dr. Hinton's accomplishments in the field include an impressive record of securing external funding advancing the graduate education of marriage and family therapy students and the profession of marriage and family therapy. He received two consecutive appointments by former Lt. Govs. Amy Tuck and Phil Bryant to the Mississippi Board of Examiners for Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapists, where he served as chair of the Marriage and Family Therapy Discipline Specific and Marriage and Family Therapy Continuing Education Committees.

 Hinton has also served four years as both a board member and executive director of the Mississippi Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and given three years of national service to the Association for Marital and Family Therapy Regulatory Boards.

In addition to his duties as interim chairman of his department, he also serves the university as manager of the University Clinic for Family Therapy and director of clinical training and program director for the department's Marriage and Family Therapy program.

                   Rouse Serving as Leader of Regional Education Association

Dr. Sharon E. Rouse, associate professor in the department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education in the College of Education and Psychology at The University of Southern Mississippi, is serving a two-year term (2012-2014) as the President of the Southern Business Education Association (SBEA).

The purpose of the association is to promote better business education in the Southern region and throughout the U.S. SBEA represents more than 3,000 business educators from 12 states and is an affiliate of the National Business Education Association, headquartered in Reston, Va.

                             Eadens Published in International Journal

Dr. Daniel Eadens, visiting assistant professor in The University of Southern Mississippi Department of Educational Leadership and School Counseling, had an article he co-authored published in the spring 2012 edition of International Journal of Educational Leadership Preparation titled The Intentions of Florida Educational Leadership Graduate Students to Pursue Administrative Positions.”

Eadens has more than 10 years of experience teaching students at all levels, including K-12, college and in administration as a night school principal. During his first year in the profession, he earned a runner-up teacher of the year award. Eadens graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of South Florida with bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree.  In addition, he is a retired U.S. Army major with 23 years of military experience, including a tour in Iraq.
