College of Health Honors Faculty, Staff at Annual Awards Banquet

The University of Southern Mississippi College of Health held its annual Faculty and Staff Award Banquet on Thursday, April 26. 

This year's theme, SMASH-Ed, Southern Miss All-Stars of Health Education, featured Broadway trivia and a special dance number performed by the reigning Crowd Favorite from the Southern Miss Dancing with Deans, Dr. Michael Forster, and his partner Mrs. Dianne Coleman.  Graduate student in the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences, Mr. Matt Walker, served as emcee for the event.

The faculty and staff award recipients are as follows:

E.D. Kenna, Sr. Award –  Dr. Charkarra Anderson-Lewis, Community Health

Distinguished Alumni Award – Dr. Maureen K. Martin, Speech and Hearing Sciences

Outstanding Faculty Service Award – Dr. Tim Rehner, Social Work

Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award – Dr. Wendy Bounds Stinson, Nutrition and Food Systems

Distinguished Teaching Award — Dr. Rowena Elliott, Nursing

Emerging Scholar Faculty Award — Dr. Alicia Sample, Nutrition and Food Systems

Distinguished Researcher Award — Dr. Jerome Kolbo, Social Work

Outstanding Professional Staff Award — Ms. Jennifer Downey, Dean's Office

Distinguished Office Professional Award — Ms. Martha Resavy, Nutrition and Food Systems

Distinguished Mentor Award — Ms. Delories Williams, Social Work

The Spirit Award — Ms. Makayla Merritt, Human Performance & Recreation

 

The event was planned by the College's Award Committee, chaired by Ms. Martha Resavy of the Department of Nutrition & Food Systems.  Additional Award Committee members include, Charkarra Anderson-Lewis, Community Health; Virginia Berry, Speech & Hearing, Anita Boykins, Nursing, Sabrina Bryant, Medical Technology,  Jenine Housewright, Social Work,  Geoffrey Hudson, Human Performance & Recreation, Laurie Risher, staff representative, and students Kara Palmer (HP&R) and Matthew Walker (SHS). In addition, the College of Health Ambassadors served as event “ushers” for the event.
