Dr. Maureen Martin, director of The University of Southern Mississippi's DuBard School for Language Disorders, has been elected president-elect of the Mississippi Speech-Language-Hearing Association (MSHA) for 2012. She will serve as president of MSHA in 2013.

MSHA serves speech-language pathologists and audiologists in Mississippi by encouraging study and research in both fields, promoting high standards of qualifications and ethical practices, and supporting speech and hearing services in the state.

“Our state association is a dynamic tool for professionals for networking, advocacy, continuing education and public education,” said Martin. “It is a privilege to serve colleagues throughout the state in this capacity.”

Martin is a nationally certified speech-language pathologist and teacher of the deaf and also is a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT).  She also holds state licensure in elementary education, learning disabilities, reading, and school administration.

The DuBard School for Language Disorders was established in 1962 and is a clinical division of the Southern Miss Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences. The school serves children with severe communication disorders, including the written language disorder of dyslexia. The school also provides guidance and counseling for parents and families of the children. The school is a practicum site for university students majoring in speech-language pathology, audiology and deaf education. For more information visit www.usm.edu/dubard.
