Final Science Caf of spring 2012 Semester set for April 24

Mon, 04/23/2012 - 03:05pm

The University of Southern Mississippi Libraries final Science Café for the spring 2012 semester is Tuesday, April 24 from 3-4:30 p.m. in the Cook Library Art Gallery, located next to Starbucks in room 105A.

The title of the program is “Exercise in a Pill: Marathon Mouse” and will focus on different drugs that mimic the effects of exercise, the product of research with the goal of turning “couch potato” rodents into champion runners. The discussion will be led by Dr. Geoffrey Hudson, assistant professor of exercise science in the Southern Miss School of Human Performance and Recreation.

A Science Cafes casual meeting place, plain language, and inclusive conversation create a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere for people who may have no science background. Each meeting is organized around an interesting scientific topic where a scientist gives a brief presentation and shows a short video clip to kick off the discussion. The events are free and open to the public. For more information, contact Tracy Englert 601.266.6396 or e-mail tracy.englertFREEMississippi
