Free Housing Fair Scheduled June 5 for National Homeownership Month

The University of Southern Mississippi, Institute for Disability Studies Home of Your Own (HOYO) program is co-sponsoring the “Opening Doors to Homeownership 2012 Housing Fair” on June 5, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Hattiesburg Historic Train Depot at308 Newman Street.

The housing fair is also being co-sponsored by the Mississippi Home Corporation, Housing Alternatives, The City of Hattiesburg's Federal and State Programs, BancorpSouth, Trustmark and The First Bank. 

The event is open to the general public and designed to help celebrate June as National Homeownership Month by providing housing resources to the residents of Hattiesburg and surrounding areas.

“June is National Homeownership Month,” said Cassie Hicks, coordinator of housing initiatives for the Institute for Disability Studies. “This month is a good time to focus on buying a home in the Hattiesburg area.”

The Institute for Disability currently has grant funds for qualifying applicants to receive up to $15,000 in down payment assistance in targeted areas. Applicants must have a disability or live with a family member with a disability and meet grant criteria to qualify for funds. Housing counselors will be available to take applications. Refreshments will be served and entertainment provided.
