Friends of University Libraries Supports New Nursing Resources

The Friends of the University Libraries at The University of Southern Mississippi recently funded new electronic books for the libraries' nursing collection. The donation comes during a trend toward online learning within the field.
According to Kathleen Masters, associate director of the Southern Miss School of Nursing, electronic resources are becoming an important tool in nursing education. Students also appreciate the growth of the electronic resources collection because of its easy access from off-campus.
“The availability of e-books for nurses will contribute to the success of innovations in both practice and education,” said Southern Miss nursing student Armando Alejandro.
Corrie Marsh, associate dean for collections and scholarly communications, expressed gratitude on behalf of University Libraries. “This donation helps us move forward with the ability to purchase electronic collections for our students. These nursing resources will be invaluable to students in our nursing programs in Hattiesburg and on the Gulf Coast.”
Lynn Langley, a doctor of nursing student and purse practitioner involved in rural health work, said “With this technology we will be able to promote new knowledge for nursing students, and it will have a positive effect on the outcome for underserved patients in rural Mississippi.”
The Friends of the University Libraries provides University Libraries with research, teaching and public service support. This aid and encouragement continues to advance the University Libraries' mission in valuable ways.
