Hattiesburgs First Mardi Gras Parade to begin on Southern Miss Campus

Mon, 02/06/2012 - 03:04pm

The city of Hattiesburg's first Caerus (“Spirit of Opportunity”) Mardi Gras Parade is set for Thursday, Feb. 9 beginning at 6 p.m. The parade, which will start at the north parking lot of The University of Southern Mississippi's Hillcrest Residence Hall, will include several floats featuring local families, businesses and other organizations.

Sponsored by Keith Superstores and other Hattiesburg-area businesses, the parade will continue from Hillcrest down Service Drive, running south parallel to Highway 49, then onto Hardy Street travelling west to 38th Avenue where the parade will conclude.

Floats will be judged on several features and an overall winner will be selected. Parade tailgaters are welcome along the route any time after 1:30 p.m. where space is available, and pre- and post-parade specials will be offered by some area businesses along the way.
