High School Athletic, Security Officials Discuss Partnership with NCS4

The National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) at The University of Southern Mississippi recently held a meeting with high school interscholastic athletic officials and security directors to plan and develop an educational and certification program for school safety and security personnel.

An increase in forms of violence at high school athletics and activities furthers the need to create standards and enhance safety measures.

“At the National Center we are looking forward to working with different organizations to develop an after-school risk management curriculum and certification,” said Dr. Lou Marciani, NCS4 director. “The next steps are to develop a curriculum and pilot the program at designated Mississippi school districts in late spring, 2013.”

Representatives from the following organizations were on hand to participate: National Federation of State High School Associations, National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, and the Mississippi High School Activities Association. In addition, select school superintendents, principals and athletic directors attended the meeting.

“The National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association is thrilled to explore developing a partnership with NCS4 to extend what has already been done for the professional and collegiate levels,” said Bruce Whitehead, executive director. “We believe this partnership can provide our members with the best available tools to create safer athletic events in our high schools and middle schools.”
