High School Polymer Science Day set for March 30 at Southern Miss

The University of Southern Mississippi School of Polymers and High Performance Materials will host a group of high school students Friday, March 30 who will be challenged in competition to engineer a polymer project to be tested on laboratory equipment at the school. The day's activities begin at 8:45 a.m. at the Shelby Freland Thames Polymer Science Research Center on the Hattiesburg campus.
Students from Hattiesburg High, Petal High, Marion County, Madison County, Simpson County and Hancock County who are in their first year of studying polymer science at their school will participate. They will work on their projects from 9 – 10:45 a.m., and from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. design testing will take place. Awards will be presented from 1:30 – 2 p.m., with three winners to be named from among those taking part in the challenge.
The university hosts high school students twice annually for this competition, giving them an opportunity to test their skill level and learn more about the university's renowned polymer science degree programs and careers in the field.
