Master of Public Health Students Earn Awards at MPHA Conference

Adina Manning and Kristen Lockhart, both Master of Public Health students at The University of Southern Mississippi, were selected as top abstracts and awarded scholarships by the Mississippi Public Health Association (MPHA) in order to attend and present at the association's annual meeting in Philadelphia, Miss., last month.

The MPHA's annual meeting attracts public health professionals across the state. More than 400 health care professionals convene yearly for the association's conference.

Manning, a native of Columbia, Miss., presented a poster and a panel presentation titled, “Fight the Bite: A Campaign to Increase Awareness of West Nile Virus in Mississippi.” Lockhart, a Mobile, Ala., native, presented a poster and panel presentation titled, “Repainting the Canvas on Teenage Pregnancy in Mississippi.” Each presentation included updated information on these important and timely public health issues in Mississippi.
