McNair Scholars Research Symposium Nov. 27 at Hattiesburg Campus

The 13^th annual McNair Scholars Research Symposium at The University of Southern Mississippi will be held Tuesday, Nov. 27 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. in the Thad Cochran Center, room 216 on the Hattiesburg campus.

Students from various disciplines, accompanied by their faculty mentor, will present their research on each hour and half hour. The university community is encouraged to attend in support of these scholars and the program.

*11 a.m.: Matthew Cooley, “The Practicum Experience:  An Analysis of the Relationship Created between Practicum Students and Athletes.” (Mentor: Brian Gearity)

*11:30 a.m.: Selena Smith, “Racial Differences in Self-efficacy Expectations for Exercise.” (Mentors: Scott Piland, Melissa Murry)

*12 p.m.: Kristen Mechanic, “On the Relation between Parenting Practices and Pathological Narcissism in Adolescents.” (Mentor: Chris Barry)

*3 p.m.: LaTerence Varnado, “Exploring the Relationship between the Socioeconomic Status of Music Students and Their Instrument Choices.” (Mentor: Amanda Schlegel)

Dr. Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program (McNair Scholars Program) was established at Southern Miss in 1999 and honors Dr. Ronald E. McNair, an astronaut killed in the Challenger space shuttle disaster in 1986. The program prepares qualified students underrepresented in graduate education for success in graduate school.
