National Center for Sports Security and Safety to Hold Training Exercise

The National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) at The University of Southern Mississippi will conduct a Sport Event Evacuation Training and Exercise Course Jan. 31-Feb. 1 at the Trent Lott Center on the Hattiesburg campus.
The two-day course will provide assistance to sport venue managers to prepare and/or enhance an evacuation plan to assist emergency responders in implementing flexible and scalable evacuation activities. Highly innovative in its concept, the course aims to build multi-agency collaboration by delivering critical evacuation planning information.
“This Department of Homeland Security course has been developed by the National Center for NCAA athletic departments to enhance their preparedness and response in the event of an emergency requiring partial or full stadium evacuations,” said NCS4 Director Dr. Lou Marciani. “NCS4 is addressing one of the biggest security gaps in the sport industry. The goal is for all stadiums to have a good evacuation plan and most importantly exercise the plan.”
Established in 2006, the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security was created to provide an interdisciplinary academic environment to further increase sport security awareness, improve sport security policies and procedures and enhance emergency response through evacuation, recovery operations and crowd management training.
