NCS4 Produces Textbook on Sport Safety and Security

The National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) at The University of Southern Mississippi endorses an innovative textbook to support training and educational programs in sport safety and security.
Security Management for Sportsand Special Events: An Interagency Approach to Creating Safe Facilities presents a systematic approach to stadium and venue security. It deals specifically with natural disasters, terrorism, crowd control problems and other large-scale threats and examines the concerns and challenges to security and emergency planning.
“It's the first book of its kind in the marketplace and for the first time, sports management faculty and students nationwide will have access to new knowledge in sports safety and security” says Dr. Stacey Hall, lead author of the text and associate director ofNCS4. Co-authors include Walter Cooper, James McGee and NCS4Director Lou Marciani.
SecurityManagement for Sports and Special Events is a textbook for graduate students taking courses in sport event and sport facility management, risk management, or sport law. The Southern Miss School of Human Performance and Recreation offers a master's in sport management with an emphasis in sport security, as well as graduate certificate in sport security management.
The text will also serve as a reference for sport administrators, facility and event managers, league and organization officials and security-related contract or volunteer personnel to assist with planning, implementation and communication of security and emergency plans.
Established in 2006, The National Center for Spectator Sports and Security specifically focuses on research, education, and outreach efforts in sport event security, providing an interdisciplinary academic environment to increase sport security awareness, improve sport security policies and procedures and enhance emergency response through evacuation, recovery operations and crowd management training.
