Tara Burcham, coordinator of public relations in the College of Science and Technology at The University of Southern Mississippi, won two professional awards at the 2012 Public Relations Association of Mississippi (PRAM) awards banquet held recently in Columbus, Miss.

Burcham received a PRism award in the category Writing for Public Relations for the news release “USM Science and Mentoring Program Reaches Local High Schools.”  In the category of Images, Burcham also won a PRism award for the “USM Science Mentoring Photo.”

PRAM awards are given for public relations work in 25 categories and are submitted by professionals from around the state of Mississippi. The PRism is the top award in each category, followed by the Award of Excellence for work worthy of recognition, and the Certificate of Achievement recognizes notable work in the field of public relations.

The PRism awards began in 2003 as a way to honor and recognize outstanding work in the field of public relations by professionals within the state of Mississippi. The awards are judged by professionals outside the geographical boundaries of the Southern Public Relations Federation -- Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, and Louisiana

PRAM consists of approximately 600 public relations professionals from advertising and public relations agencies, corporations, non-profit organizations, government agencies, and education institutions. A complete list of its 2012 award winners can be downloaded at www.pramonline.org.
