Southern Miss Business Students Set for Tunica Field Experience Oct. 30-31

Approximately 50 University of Southern Mississippi business students will spend Halloween being treated to a unique look at career opportunities in the casino resort industry and Tunica as a potential job market.
Students from both Southern Miss Hattiesburg and Gulf Park campuses, are taking part in the Tunica Field Experience on Oct. 30-31 in Tunica, Miss. The trip will feature property tours and meetings with senior executives from Harrah's, Horseshoe, Roadhouse, Gold Strike, Hollywood, and Sam's Town casino resorts. Leaders from the Mississippi Gaming Commission, Tunica Chamber of Commerce and Tunica Convention & Visitors Bureau will be on hand to welcome the students and take them on a bus tour of the region.
“The students are mostly seniors and many of them are interested in finding jobs within the casino, hospitality and tourism industry,” said Evelyn Green, visiting assistant professor with the Department of Casino, Hospitality and Tourism Management. “This trip provides an opportunity for them to network with industry leaders and gain a better understanding of the economic impact gaming plays in our state. Many plan to secure internships, management associate positions, and part-time or full-time employment from this important experience.”
The bus trip is funded by the Department's annual Passions of the Palate student development fund raising event. Industry partners participating in the tour will sponsor the group's accommodations and meals.
