Southern Miss Celebrates 100th Birthday of Hattiesburg Hall Dormitory

Administrators, faculty, staff and students at The University of Southern Mississippi commemorated the 100^th anniversary of Hattiesburg Hall's opening with a special birthday celebration on Thursday, April 12.

Hattiesburg Hall, the university's oldest residence hall, was originally a women's dormitory when the school opened in 1912. During that time it also housed the College Clinic. Today, the facility houses upper-class male students with a grade-point-average of 2.8 or higher.

The birthday celebration included the unveiling of an original plaque discovered recently by maintenance workers.

Architect R.H. Hunt of Chattanooga, Tenn., designed the building and I.C. Garber served as the general contractor. With a total gross area of 26,475 square feet, the three-story facility was constructed at a cost of $111,000.
