Southern Miss CLLT Students, Faculty Attend MODEX 2012

The Center for Logistics, Trade and Transportation (CLTT) at The University of Southern Mississippi continues to emphasize the importance of linking students with industry. 

CLTT's participation in MODEX 2012, the industry's newest expo for the manufacturing, distribution and supply chain industries, provided a unique opportunity for students to relate their classroom theories with real life implementations in the industry. The event was held at Atlanta's Georgia World Congress in February.

MODEX 2012 was designed to offer supply chain efficiency solutions, learning opportunities and information by showcasing the products and services of more than 500 leading providers. The event also featured a variety of the latest tools and techniques of warehousing and logistics distribution, and included a warehouse design competition in which Southern Miss placed as runners-up.

Student participants from Southern Miss were Rachel Crawford, John Cochran, Richard Marrero, Mike Morris and Matthew Norton. Faculty participants were MD Sarder and Chad Miller.

“MODEX was enlightening about the future of supply chain management, manufacturing and distribution,” Norton said. “Seeing the vast array of time and cost saving possibilities through ergonomics, robotics, and data processing that will help business of all sizes succeed in the future was impressive.”

The trip was funded by the Material Handling Industry Association (MHIA) and the College-Industry Council on Material Handling Education (CICMEH). The industry association has an active program to educate and recruit students to careers in warehousing and distribution. Many of the companies at the show actively sought to hire students to meet the demands of the growing industry.
