  Gulf Coast Communications, Linthicum Receive Silver ADDY Awards

The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Office of University Communications and Francesca Linthicum, assistant director of creative services, were the recipients of two silver ADDY awards presented March 3 at the Mississippi Gulf Coast American Advertising Federation awards show at the Oak Crest Mansion in Pass Christian.

Linthicum received a silver ADDY award in the advertising for the arts and sciences - invitation category for her entry, “Super Fly Invitation.” The Southern Miss Gulf Coast Office of University Communications was awarded a silver ADDY for the entry, “Stay Here. Go Far. TV,” in the television self-promotion single, local category.

Payne Recertified with Highest Certification in Security Industry

Dr. Thomas Payne, associate professor in the School of Criminal Justice at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast, recently received recertificationin private security management, also known as certified protection professional (CPP) from the American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS) International.

With approximately 3,000 CPPs worldwide, this certification allows Payne to instruct his students with the most up-to-date knowledge using the highest certification in the security industry. Payne teaches intersession classes, which include homeland security and computer security with cyber crime. As a charter member of the ASIS chapter on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Payne is among a membership of managers and upper level administrative personnel in the private and public security sector.

Students, Sigma Tau Delta Members Present at Annual Conference

University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast students representing the Alpha Pi Eta chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the international English honor society, recently presented papers at the 2012 Sigma Tau Delta International Convention in New Orleans, La.

Heather Schmottlach of Bay St. Louis presented “Anne Bradstreet: Finding an Identity as a Puritan Woman and a Poet” and Danielle Myers of D'Iberville presented “Masking the Truth: Modernist Poems Revealing the Government's Intentions.” Both are senior English majors expected to graduate this semester.

The annual Sigma Tau Delta Convention brings together hundreds of students, alumni, and faculty members to share their scholarly and creative work, as well as receive recognition for their achievements. This year's convention featured a three-day program of presentations and networking with other universities and respected authors.
