                       Gulf Coast Library to Host Science Café on Fire Management

The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Library will host the presentation, “The Science of Fire Management and the Importance behind It,” Tuesday, March 20 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. in the Daily Grind Café, located on the first floor of the library on the Gulf Park campus in Long Beach.

Jay Boykin, district fire management officer for the USDA Forest Service in the DeSoto Ranger District, will lead the presentation, which is part of the university's Science Café series. Science Café offers those with minimal background in science the opportunity to meet and discuss scientific issues with professionals in a relaxed social setting.

Gulf Coast Library to Celebrate Women's History Month

with Wellness Panel

In celebration of Women's History Month, The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Library will host a wellness panel covering important topics in women's health Tuesday, March 27 from noon – 2 p.m. in room 204 of the library, located on the Gulf Park campus in Long Beach.

Topics and presenters include “Women's Health and Stress” led by Angela Kay Hovanec, nurse practitioner from Memorial Hospital at Gulfport; “Women and Cancer: The Power of Prevention and Early Detection” led by Stacey Curry, M.P.H., director of Southern Mississippi Area Health Education Center at Southern Miss; and “Women and Nutrition” led by Martha-Lee Bohn, certified health counselor. 

The wellness panel is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lunch or reserve lunch with The Daily Grind, located within the library, by contacting Kemberly Chapman at 228.214.5418. Fruit and beverages will be served at the panel.
