Southern Miss Gulf Coast Offering Fall Intersession, 2-Week Courses

The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast is offering various intersession courses from August 6 – 17 where students may complete the class session within two weeks.
Courses offered include:
- Seminar in Criminal Justice (CJ 480) – This is an interdisciplinary seminar covering significant problem areas in the criminal justice system, including a foundation in cyber crime and terrorism.
- Introduction to Computing (CSC 100) – This course provides an insight into the problem-solving/software/social/ethical/legal issues that underlie computer systems. The coursework includes databases, spread sheets and simple programming. A prerequisite of ½ Carnegie unit in computing is required.
- Conservation of Natural Resources (GHY 370) – This course offers an analysis of basic principles and problems associated with the use, misuse and conservation of natural resources.
- Cognitive Psychology (PSY 425) – This course focuses on the study of mental processes, including perception, learning, memory, reasoning, problem-solving, decision-making, and language. Students will learn an overview of major theories explaining mental phenomena, as well as actively exploring the research literature through reading empirical reports. The prerequisite to take this course is PSY 110.
- Psychology of Humor (PSY 453) – This course offers a broad overview of the theories and scientific study of the psychology of humor. Course instruction will emphasize what is currently known about humor from a scientific standpoint, and how we know it, highlighting psychology as a scientific enterprise. The prerequisite to take this course is PSY 110.
- Psychology of Personality (PSY 455) – This course offers different theoretical approaches to the development of the mature personality. The prerequisite to take this course is PSY 110; permission from instructor required.
