Jessica Hobart, recreational sports assistant director for aquatics and outdoors at The University of Southern Mississippi, has been reappointed as the chair of the Career Opportunities Center Committee for the 2012-2013 year for the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA).

While interning at the NIRSA National Center, Hobart was charged with running the Career Opportunities Center at the 2010 NIRSA Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif. She served as a member on the COC Committee during the 2010-2011 year, after which she was then nominated and served as the COC Committee Chair during the 2011-2012 year.

“I am excited for the opportunity to continue chairing the COC Committee and am looking forward to the co-location of the 2013 NIRSA/American College Personnel Association (ACPA) Annual Conference in Las Vegas, Nev.,” Hobart said.

NIRSA is a professional organization dedicated to building quality intramural and recreational sports and fitness programs and services. The organization's mission is to be “a leader in higher education and the advocate for the advancement of recreation, sport, and wellness by providing educational and developmental opportunities, generating and sharing knowledge, and promoting networking and growth for [its] members.”

The 2013 NIRSA Annual Conference will be held March 4-7 in Las Vegas, Nev. The theme this year is “Inspiring Communities of Well Being.”

As chair of the COC Committee, Hobart's duties include developing and managing an action plan that is in line with their goals for the year, presenting educational sessions, facilitating COC events at regional and state conferences and working closely with the NIRSA National Center liaison to assist in the decision making process regarding the COC and the annual conference.

“We are extremely proud that a staff member from Southern Miss has been selected for this prestigious assignment and responsibility,” said Sid Gonsulin, Southern Miss associate vice president of Student Affairs and director of Recreational Sports. “Literally hundreds of professionals and students seeking employment will benefit from Jessi's work and that of the Career Opportunities Center Committee.”
