Southern Miss to Hold Annual Founder's Day Ceremony on March 30

The University of Southern Mississippi will mark the 102nd anniversary of its legislative founding Friday, March 30 when it holds Founders' Day ceremonies and events on the Hattiesburg and Gulf Coast campuses and teaching sites. Students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members are invited to attend, with a webcast of events from the Hattiesburg campus available for viewing.

Ceremonies on the Hattiesburg campus will feature a program honoring outstanding achievements by Southern Miss students, faculty and staff. Newly elected Student Government Association (SGA) officers will be sworn in, with the Southern Miss Alumni Association presenting the SGA president with an official university ring.

Founders' Day activities on the Gulf Coast will include those at the Gulf Park Campus in Long Beach; Gulf Coast Research Laboratory in Ocean Springs; and at the Stennis Space Center Teaching and Research Site in Hancock County.

The Founders' Day schedule of events includes the following:

Hattiesburg Campus

3 p.m. - Founders' Day Ceremony, north lawn of the Aubrey K. Lucas Administration Building

·         Student Awards

·         10-30 year faculty/staff recognition

·         Faculty Awards

·         Staff Excellence

·         SGA inauguration
 

4:30 p.m.– Founders' Day reception at the West Memorial brick promenade. Refreshments will be available, along with musical entertainment by Hub Bones, Spirit of Southern Miss and the Steel Pan Orchestra.

Southern Miss Gulf Coast

·         9:30 a.m.: Stennis Space Center Teaching and Research site ceremony, Department of Marine Science, building 1020

·         10 a.m.:Gulf Park ceremony, Fleming Education Center

·         2:30 p.m.:Gulf Coast Research Laboratory ceremony, dining hall
