Southern Miss Honored by Corporation for National and Community Service

The Corporation for National and Community Service has named The University of Southern Mississippi to the 2012 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, with the recognition being announced today at the American Council on Education's annual conference in Los Angeles.
The President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, launched in 2006, annually highlights the role colleges and universities play in solving community problems and placing more students on a lifelong path of civic engagement by recognizing institutions that achieve meaningful, measureable outcomes in the communities they serve. Southern Miss has previously been named to the roll.
In its message to honorees, the corporation stated “The Honor Roll recognizes higher education institutions that reflect the values of exemplary community service and achieve meaningful outcomes in their communities. Your selection to the Honor Roll is recognition from the highest levels of the federal government of your commitment to service and civic engagement on your campus and in our nation.”
“This recognition shows that Southern Miss continues to be a national leader in civic engagement,” said Josh Duplantis, assistant director for union and programs, Office of Community Service Learning. “It represents the time and efforts of many faculty, staff, students and community partners that continually reach out to serve in our local, regional and global communities.”
