Southern Miss to Host Forum Discussing Poverty and Impacts on Health

The College of Health at The University of Southern Mississippi, along with the Hattiesburg Clinic and the Southern and Southwest Mississippi Area Health Education Centers, present the forum, “Poverty and Its Impact on Health: Causation or Correlation,” Thursday, April 12, from 6 – 7:45 p.m. in the Fleming Education Center at the university's Gulf Park campus in Long Beach.

The forum will feature Dr. Charkarra Anderson-Lewis, associate professor for the Southern Miss Department of Community Health Sciences; Christine Coker, associate research professor of horticulturefrom the Mississippi State University Coastal Research and Extension Center; and Dr. Persharon Dixon, medical director at Coastal Family Health Center.

The speakers will discuss theresearch and factors in the effectiveness of trying to rid the gap between socioeconomic status and health care. A question-and-answer session will follow the panel discussion.

The forum is free and open to the public. Registration for the forum will begin at 5:30 p.m. and refreshments will be served.
