Southern Miss to Host Viewing of Annual Living with Grief Program on April 19

The University of Southern Mississippi College of Health and Center on Aging will host a viewing of the Hospice Foundation of America's (HFA) 19^th Annual Living with Grief® program set for Thursday, April 19 at the Thad Cochran Center on the Hattiesburg campus.

Each year the HFA presents a nationally recognized distance learning program to more than 125,000 people in 2,000 communities. This annual educational event has been instrumental in educating healthcare professionals and families on issues affecting end-of-life care.

This year's program focuses on “End-of-Life Ethics.” The program will examine, using a case-study approach, the ethical issues and dilemmas that emerge at the end of life, the principles of ethical decision-making and the effects of these decisions on staff and families. Former ABC News and 20/20 correspondent Lynn Sherr will serve as the moderator of a panel that will include many distinguished healthcare professionals.

“A primary purpose of the college's Center on Aging is to educate the academic and professional communities on issues of relevance to older people,” said Dr. Mike Forster, dean of the College of Health at Southern Miss. “The end-of-life ethics program is an excellent example of the learning opportunities that the Center is making available, in this case at no cost to participants.”
