University of Southern Mississippi sophomore Tyler Brown, of Biloxi, Miss., has been awarded the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society's Stemler Study Abroad Scholarship.

Brown, a chemistry and polymer science double major, is spending the spring semester studying at England's University of Exeter.

“Because I hold the men and women of Alpha Lambda Delta, as well as the organization, so highly, I greatly appreciate this award that has been given to me,” said Brown. “Since I am currently on exchange, I will probably use the scholarship money ($1,000) to help pay for either my housing, books or perhaps getting my belongings back home.”

Today, Alpha Lambda Delta has chapters at 270 campuses in the United States. Members are invited to join by the local chapters, after the chapter has determined that the student has achieved a 3.5 or higher GPA in their first year or term of enrollment in an institution of higher education. The members of the local chapters are also considered to be members of the National organization.

Brown was also recently named the university's 19th recipient of the prestigious Goldwater Scholarship. The coveted national award supports academic achievement in science and mathematics for college sophomores and juniors.
