Stewart Joins School of Library and Information Science Faculty

J. Brenton Stewart, who recently earned his doctorate in library and information studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is joining The University of Southern Mississippi's School of Library and Information Science faculty.

His dissertation is titled "Informing the South: On the Culture of Print in Antebellum Augusta, Georgia, 1828 - 1860" and his areas of research interest include Southern print culture, history of libraries and social informatics. He earned a master's in library science from Clark Atlanta University and a bachelor's degree in history and African-American Studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Stewart was recently a Stephan Botein Fellow at the American Antiquarian Society, has presented at various conferences including the Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE), and has papers under review for journal publication.
