Kasper Named Director of Office of Technology Development

University of Southern Mississippi Vice Provost for Research Dr. Gordon Cannon has announced that Chase Kasper will become the director of the Office of Technology Development, effective Feb. 1.

Before accepting the Southern Miss post, Kasper served as associate director of the Office of Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer at Mississippi State University. He has been involved with technology licensing, intellectual property management and technology transfer in a university environment for almost 10 years.

“I believe the University of Southern Mississippi has unique opportunities to effectively transition the fruits of its research enterprise out for the public benefit,” said Kasper. “In addition the energy and the spirit of the people at USM has been impressive. In combination, I believe this can lead to some exciting opportunities.”

In his new role at Southern Miss, Kasper will be responsible for the preparation, implementation, review, interpretation and revision of technology development policies and procedures. He will also coordinate the development of a strategic plan to guide university technology efforts and supervision, as well as training and professional development of technology development staff.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for me to work with Vice President (Gordon) Cannon and his team, along with the entrepreneurial USM faculty and business community to enhance technology development and transfer efforts at the University,” said Kasper.

Prior to his work in a university setting Kasper spent more than 13 years honing his skills in the private sector. His experience includes successfully managing multi-million dollar product lines, product planning and execution, assessing partnership opportunities, designing corporate identity guidelines, developing international pricing structures, launching new products and assessing customer requirements and meeting customer satisfaction goals.

A native of Oxford, Miss., Kasper received his bachelor of business administration and master's of business administration degrees from Mississippi State University.
