Leonard Presents Paper to American Sociological Association in New York City

Dr. Marie des Neiges Léonard, assistant professor of sociology at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park campus, recently presented the paper, “Census and Racial Identity in France: Invisible Categories and Color-Blind Politics,” while attending the American Sociological Association Annual Meeting in New York City.

Leonard's paper explores how France records its census data, which does not include statistics on race or ethnicity. Her paper offers an alternative to previous interpretations and argues that the so-called color-blindness of the French census can be analyzed as color-blind racism, articulated through the research of Bonilla-Silva in 2006.
