The Live Oak Writing Project at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park campus was awarded a grant of $87,000 in a partnership with the Mississippi Department of Education. The partnership requires a three-year initiative to offer a 10-session professional development program for teachers as they implement the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in English Language Arts.

Teacher Consultants from the Live Oak Writing Project will present the staff development program in Long Beach and Ellisville during the 2013-2014 calendar school year. These sessions include a focus on the teaching of writing, analysis of student work, instructional strategies, model lessons, class demonstrations and professional readings.
