Memorial Service August 25 for Virginia Covington, Former Communications Professor

A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 25 at 4 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of Ascension in Hattiesburg for Virginia Alice Price Shands Covington, a former professor of speech communication at The University of Southern Mississippi, who died at her home in Hattiesburg July 29. She was 84.
A Southern Miss alumna, Covington taught courses in organizational and interpersonal communication. She also served on the faculties at William Carey University and Mississippi College.
“Dr. Covington was a special person; a consummate professional who was graceful and witty,” said Dr. Charles Tardy, chairman of the Southern Miss Department of Communication Studies. “To all she was kind and thoughtful. Students loved her and colleagues respected and admired her.”
