Southern Miss Associate Professor Named NATA Fellow

Dr. Bill Holcomb, associate professor and director of the Athletic Training Program at The University of Southern Mississippi School of Human Performance and Recreation, has been awarded Fellowship by the National Athletic Trainer's Association (NATA).
Fellow status is reserved for NATA members who distinguish themselves in the athletic training profession through quality research, educational contributions and significant service to the profession.
“I have devoted most of my career to the advancement of the Athletic Training profession through research and education. It was a very nice honor to be recognized as a Fellow by the NATA,” said Holcomb.
Recipients are selected by a peer review panel and awarded annually at the NATA annual meeting and symposium.
“Having the chance to work with someone as esteemed as Dr. Holcomb was what brought me to the University of Southern Mississippi,” said Dr. Chris Brown, assistant professor for the Athletic Training Program. “His years of experience and success have established him as one of the premier figures in the athletic rraining profession and it is a joy to be able to work with him, and learn from him, on a daily basis.”
Holcomb has more than 35 papers published in refereed journals, has published a textbook and contributed to a number of textbook chapters. He has served on the editorial board for several journals, including the Journal of Athletic Training and Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research.
Other professional services include acting as the NATA liaison to the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), vice chair of the NSCA Certification Commission, and he currently serves on the NSCA Board of Directors. For his research and service contributions to the NSCA he was named a Fellow in 2008. Holcomb has presented nationally and internationally, including a lecture series at the Chinese Olympic Committee's Sports Trainer Workshop, and at the World Scientific Congress on Golf in St Andrews, Scotland.
