Southern Miss Forensics Ranked 6th in Tournament

Students from The University of Southern Mississippi continue to shine in national debate competitions, most recently in San Jacinto College North in Houston, Texas.  The Southern Miss Forensics Society competed in a field of competition included 19 colleges and universities from Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas.

The team ranked sixth in Overall Sweepstakes for debate and individual events, finishing ahead of University of Louisiana-Lafayette, the University of Texas A&M, San Antonio University, and others. In individual events competition, Southern Miss placed seventh, and in debate competition, the team placed fourth.

Lakelyn Taylor, a freshman from Long Beach, Miss. was awarded sixth place in Informative speaking. Taylor also was a semi-finalist in Extemporaneous speaking.

Brandon Hersey, a senior from Hattiesburg was a semi-finalist in Extemporaneous speaking and Dramatic Interpretation.

Other students contributing at the tournament were Austin Allen, Lyeneal Griffin, Kianna Mitchell, Rachael Reeves, Taylor Sandridge, and Lena Schexnayder.

Members of the team will be traveling to Louisiana State University - Shreveport to compete in the Red River Swing November 8-10.
