Members of the Southern Miss community took time to reflect on the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001 and honor those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks during a special ceremony held today at the Trent Lott National Center.

Sponsored by the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4), along with the College Panhellenic Council, the event also featured an unveiling of a 9/11 Memorial Sculpture. The sculpture features a piece of twisted steel from the World Trade Center Twin Towers that collapsed after being struck by hijacked airliners.

First responders from the Pine Belt area, as well as city officials, attended the memorial service held on the Hattiesburg campus.
