Eight members of the Gamma Tau Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi attended the Fraternity's Southern LEAD Provincial Conference & Council Meeting in Orlando, Fla., held Feb. 28-March 2.

Leadership and Excellence Academies for Deltasigs (LEAD) focus on educational development and offer numerous opportunities throughout the year for members to further their professional and personal skills.

The conference offered sessions focused on the following tracks: Career, Chapter Operations, Deltasig for Life, and Leadership & Teamwork. According to Kelsey Rinehart, the chapter's Public Relations Coordinator, those who attended LEAD set goals to focus on their personal leadership skills and development.

“This conference is designed to engage members in ways that help them better understand and develop their individual leadership styles,” she said. “We attended LEAD School in the fall, and this conference is an excellent opportunity to expand on what we learned about building our professional character.”

Tim Augustine, author of “How Hard Are You Knocking?”, led three breakout sessions and worked with students on developing their personal brand in order to achieve their professional goals.

Caitlin Dormody, a junior accounting major, noted that Augustine sat at Gamma Tau's table during the closing banquet. “He gave us some really amazing advice on studying abroad and pursuing our careers. He sat down with us on a really personal level and talked to us about our goals and gave fantastic advice,” she said.

In addition to building their leadership skills, the Gamma Tau chapter also explored their entrepreneur talents by designing and selling Delta Sigma Pi shirts at the conference.

“Many chapters design shirts, water bottles, or key chains because it's difficult to find merchandise with our logos on them,” said Senior Vice-President Charles Craft. “It was a unique business venture that helped us bond with our brothers and members from other chapters.”

The Gamma Tau members who attended the Southern LEAD Provincial Conference include: Charles Craft, Marie Curry, Caitlin Dormody, Audrianna Glasper, Thomas Kern, Kiana Patrick, Jordan Smalley, and Eric Zitter.
