Dr. David Goff, former School of Mass Communication and Journalism Director, Dies

A memorial service is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 at St. Johns Family Funeral Home in St. Augustine, Fla. for Dr. David Goff, former director of The University of Southern Mississippi School of Mass Communication and Journalism, who died Sept. 30 at St. Augustine Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was 66.

A native of Rehoboth, Mass., Goff also served as chairman of the former Department of Radio, Television and Film at Southern Miss. He later held faculty and administrative positions at the University of West Georgia and the University of North Florida.

"Dr. Goff epitomized the Southern Miss standard of deep commitment to student success. He mentored countless undergraduate and graduate students in his years with us, leaving a legacy of graduates who've gone on to successful careers,” said Dr. David R. Davies, interim director of the Southern Miss School of Mass Communication and Journalism. “His commitment to others also extended to his colleagues, who counted on him both for friendship and leadership.”

Goff is survived by his wife, Linda Goff of St. Augustine; a son, Matthew Goff of Nashville, Tenn.; and a brother, Robert S. Goff of Rehoboth, Mass.
