The Hattiesburg Area Multi-sport Racing (H.A.M.R.'d) group is sponsoring a half marathon February 8, 2014 at Lake Thoreau Environmental Center (LTEC).

The trail race allows runners to choose either the half marathon or 5K. The event is sponsored by H.A.M.R.'d and Hub City Velo.

The scenic half marathon will take runners from the new Lake Thoreau Center through two abbreviated laps of the Golden Eagle Trail complex on some of the most challenging and undulating single track in the state.

Registration is $15 for the half marathon (13.1 miles) or $20 for the 5K. Aid stations will be provided during the the race and refreshments will follow.

LTEC is located on what is known as the Lake Thoreau property. It was owned by Mason Leon Eubanks, a faculty member in English at The University of Southern Mississippi for 22 years and where he, his friends and others, hiked, fished, and hunted over the years. The Eubanks estate donated approximately 131 acres of the land to the University Foundation to be used as a nature preserve for scientific, educational and esthetic purposes.

The race begins at 10 a.m. with registration from 9 – 9:45 a.m. For more information or to preregister, visit http://www.webscorer.com/register?raceid=15874
