A former University of Southern Mississippi staff member who worked on the Hattiesburg campus has been placed under arrest.

Quandom Benn, 31, turned himself in Nov. 17 to the University Police Department (UPD) after being charged with seven misdemeanor counts each of stalking and disturbing the peace. Each offense is punishable by fines and jail time of up to one year.

The arrest follows a detailed investigation over the last few months after reports made by University employees to UPD. Benn resigned from his position early this summer.

“We appreciate the assistance of those employees who made us aware of this situation and for the patience of the campus community as we conducted our investigation,” said UPD Detective Rusty Keyes.

The UPD advises members of the campus community to always be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious behavior at 601.266.4986; for information about the department, visit http://www.usm.edu/safety.
