Renowned Author to Speak at OLLI Series on Wednesday Evening

Noted author and commentator John T. Edge will be the guest speaker as part of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute's “Food, Campus, Table Series” set for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at the OLLI center on The University of Southern Mississippi's Hattiesburg campus.

Edge is a writer, commentator, and director of the Southern Foodways Alliance, an institute of the Center for the Study of Southern Culture at the University of Mississippi. He is a frequent contributor to the New York Times, Southern Living magazine, Garden & Gun magazine, National Public Radio and countless other media. He has also made appearances on CBS Sunday Morning and Iron Chef.

His discussion for the OLLI series will focus on contributions of African American cooks and servers to the Southern table and the role that food has played in crafting black strategies of success in the 20th Century South. The talk will include highlights from a recent documentary that examines the work of an African American waiter from Birmingham, Ala.
