Southern Miss to Celebrate 2014 Homecoming Nov. 3-8

The University of Southern Mississippi community is gearing up for a week of events to celebrate this year's Homecoming with the theme “All That Glitters is Gold.”

“Homecoming is the peak of school spirit on the Southern Miss campus,” said Kayla Patak, Homecoming committee member. “I hope that our theme, ‘All That Glitters is Gold,' embodies this spirit and helps raise Southern Miss to the top.”

The Southern Miss Golden Eagles will face the Marshall University Thundering Herd in a Conference USA showdown at 6 p.m. Nov. 8, following the Homecoming parade and Eagle Walk.

The University will be teeming with activity and tradition throughout the week with events including:

HATTIESBURG CAMPUS

Monday, Nov. 3

  • Homecoming Kickoff Party in the South End Zone of The Rock at 7:30 p.m.

Tuesday, Nov. 4

  • Bring It On: Eagle Style at Reed-Green Coliseum at 7 p.m.

Wednesday, Nov. 5

  • Day of Service
  • Campus clean up (time TBA) and profit shares (locations TBA)

Thursday, Nov. 6

  • Home basketball game against Mississippi College (time TBA)

Friday, Nov. 7

  • Fountain Sit at 1 p.m.
  • Friday Night at the Fountain, 7 p.m., Centennial Green
  • The 2014 Shell Finish Line / Alumni Association Golf Tournament: 8:30 a.m. at the Hattiesburg Country Club. All proceeds from the tournament will go toward the Pierce Legacy Scholarship Endowment to provide scholarships for children and grandchildren of alumni
  • Friday Football Luncheon: 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Trent Lott Center. Event is open to all fans and a lunch buffet is served by Eagle Dining. $10 per person.
  • 19th Annual Homecoming Eagle 5K Run: 5 p.m. check-in; race starts at 6 p.m.
  • Alumni Hall of Fame Banquet and Induction Ceremony: 6:30 p.m., Thad Cochran Center. Seven outstanding alumni will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
     

Saturday, Nov. 8

  • Parade 11 a.m. (parade will travel through campus starting at Rose's parking lot and ending at 4th street)
  • Alumni Association Awards Luncheon and Business Meeting, Noon, Thad Cochran Center
  • Student Printz Reunion, 2 p.m., College Hall.
  • Student Printz Commemorative Photo, 3:30 p.m., College Hall front steps
  • Eagle Walk at 4 p.m.
  • WUSM Tailgate Concert Series, 4:15 p.m., Centennial Green. Former Southern Miss basketball player Jarekus Singleton will perform.
  • Greek Life Reception, 4 p.m.-5:30 p.m., Ogletree House
  • Game at 6 p.m. vs. Marshall

Sunday, Nov. 9

  • African American Alumni Homecoming Brunch, 10:30 a.m., Thad Cochran Center

GULF PARK CAMPUS
Saturday, Nov. 8

  • Tailgate Under the Oaks
  • 3 p.m., pPresented by the Student Government Association and The Office of the Vice President
