Southern Miss Enactus Team to Attend Silver Spoon Reception

The University of Southern Mississippi Enactus team raised more than 5,000 pounds for Campbell's Let's Can Hunger Project Partnership for the third consecutive year.
The team has been invited to the Let's Can Hunger Silver Spoon Reception at the Enactus National Competition in Cincinnati Ohio April 2 for surpassing its goal. The team will be recognized with a certificate at the reception, and finalist teams will be announced during the National Competition.
“Our Enactus team has been able to experience the joy and appreciation that the organizations and homeless individuals have expressed upon receiving all that we have donated and the results that have been achieved through individualized work with some of the homeless,” said Associate Professor of Management and Enactus advisor Jennifer Sequeira. “This has really had a positive impact on the team bringing great satisfaction and feelings of accomplishment to the team members.”
Enactus is an international non-profit organization that brings together student, academic and business leaders who are committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need.
Through various projects Enactus collected more than 10,000 cans. One of which was the "Cans for Credit" campaign that enabled students to receive extra credit for can donations.
The team also held a 5K run/walk fundraiser where individuals could drop off donations of can food and a car wash for cans where participants could get a car wash in exchange for cans or donations.
A door-to-door campaign made it possible for homeowners in local neighborhoods to collect donations and leave them out for the designated pick-up day. Enactus also partnered with an apartment complex in the community to “trick or treat” for cans on Halloween.
Sam's Club Hattiesburg and its associates helped out by donating cans and other non-perishables. Monetary donations purchased additional cans.
“We are also very pleased with the encouragement and support that we have received from the university community and the community at large,” Sequeira said. “The entire university community has been made aware of the needs of the homeless as well as the hunger issue in our community.”
