Southern Miss Student Receives Prestigious Holloway Scholarship

Wilton C. Jackson II, a junior broadcast journalism major at The University of Southern Mississippi, has been awarded the $1,500 Hiliary H. Holloway Scholarship on behalf of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated.

The Hiliary H. Holloway Scholarship is named in honor of the Past Grand Polemarch and recipient of the fraternity's highest award - the Laurel Wreath. 

“As one of our most important objectives in the fraternity is ‘to encourage honorable achievement in every field of human endeavor,' it means a lot to receive such a prestigious scholarship,” said Jackson. “Achieving in the classroom or in the academic realm of life is key to my success in the future.”

Jackson is a member of the Kappa Iota chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated, a member of Southern Style, resident assistant, a writer for the Student Printz school newspaper, vice-chairman of the Student Government Association Judicial Board and is now working as a student correspondent for USA Today.

Scholarship recipients are chosen based upon their scholastic achievement, extracurricular activities, character, personality, leadership qualities and overall potential for the attainment of a baccalaureate degree.

“I believe Wilton was awarded this prestigious scholarship because he epitomizes our fraternity's principles and honors Brother Holloway's legacy of servant-leadership,” said Andre Heath, assistant to the dean for strategic initiatives at Southern Miss.

“What better way to represent Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated, my chapter Kappa Iota, myself and those who encourage me to continue the path of achievement through all of my endeavors,” said Jackson. “Above all, if it were not for God as the head of my life, I would not be able to do anything.”

Jackson is the son of Wilton and Jacqueline Jackson of Jackson, Miss.
