Southern Miss Student Selected for Leadership Conference

Wilton Jackson, a broadcast journalism major at The University of Southern Mississippi and member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, was selected to attend the Zeta Class Undergraduate Leadership Institute, a highly selective and prestigious leadership conference May 31 – June 7 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Attendees are selected based on fraternity involvement, academic success, campus involvement and leadership skills. The conference is an opportunity for networking among business corporations and fraternity men. It also offers potential job opportunities.

“It is truly awesome that I will get the opportunity to meet so many of my fellow fraternity brothers from all across the nation,” Jackson said. “It means a lot to me. It gives countless opportunities to network and to further establish life-long relationships with other Kappa men.”

Andre Heath, assistant to the dean for Strategic Initiatives in the College of Science and Technology, and Jackson's fraternity advisor, noted that it is quite an honor and privilege to be chosen to participate in the ULI. “Only 100 of the fraternity's top leaders are chosen every other year,” he said. “The fact that GE has invested in this leadership development program gives it added prestige.”

Earlier this semester Jackson was selected to participate in the USA Today Collegiate Correspondent Program which runs from Jan. 13 – May 9. He earned a spot on the 20-person correspondent team after completing two rounds of competitive writing submissions.

Jackson is the son of Wilton and Jacqueline Jackson of Jackson, Miss.
