Mon, 11/17/2014 - 12:46pm | By: Ashlea Maddox

The University of Southern Mississippi's Dale Center for the Study of War and Society will host Vina A. Lanzona, who will present Amazons of the Huk Rebellion: Gender, Sex, and Revolution in the Philippines for the Center's next War and Society Roundtable. The program is set for Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. at the Hattiesburg Public Library and will be moderated by Associate Professor of History Dr. Heather Stur.

The book gives readers a look at how women played a central role in the Huk rebellion, serving in various important military roles alongside their male comrades-in-arms.

The Roundtable is a way for community members, faculty, and students to interact while exploring topics of mutual interest. Copies of each month's book, generously provided by the Friends of the Hattiesburg Library, are available for loan at the Library in advance of each meeting.
