DuBard School Director Martin Re-elected to International Board

Maureen K. Martin, director of the DuBard School for Language Disorders at The University of Southern Mississippi, was re-elected to the board of directors for the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC), an accrediting organization for multisensory structured language education training courses.

The mission of IMSLEC is to accredit quality training courses for the professional preparation of multisensory structured language education specialists.

“I'm honored to serve such a vital organization dedicated to the continued success of multisensory education,” said Martin. “Students with written language disorders, such as dyslexia, benefit tremendously from this educational approach, and it is our responsibility to ensure the highest quality of available programs.”

Martin, a founding IMSLEC board member in 1995, will continue to build upon her 20 years of service with another three-year term. Additionally, she currently serves on the board of directors for the Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA) and the Mississippi Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and is the author of a book used in professional training of speech-language pathologists, Oral and Written Communication Disorders (2012).
