GCRL to Host Evening with Award-winning Nature Photographer

The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (GCRL) will host an evening with award-winning nature photographer Tom Ulrich at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, in GCRL's Caylor Auditorium.

The wildlife photography presentation will feature Ulrich's work from the past year, with a focus on the spring bird migration in south Texas, hummingbirds and rainforest birds in Ecuador, and Glacier National Park in detail.

Ulrich grew up in South Chicago, graduated with a degree in biology from Southern Illinois University and taught biology for four years before launching his career as a freelance photographer. He has supported himself with nature photography for more than 40 years.

His library of more than 1,000,000 images includes birds and mammals from all over the world. His photographs have been featured in publications such as National Wildlife, Audubon, National Geographic, and Montana Outdoors. He has published seven nature books.

The event and reception following is free to the public.

Ulrich will also be holding a digital photography workshop on Friday, January 23 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm at GCRL. Some of the topics included in this workshop will be: composition, histograms, digital workflow, macro photography and Adobe Photoshop. The cost of the workshop will be $40 per person.
