Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast Jan. 19 at Thad Cochran Center

The annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Interracial and Ecumenical Prayer Breakfast will be held Monday, Jan. 19 at 7:30 a.m. in The Thad Cochran Center Ballroom on The University of Southern Mississippi's Hattiesburg campus. The event is presented by the Mu Gamma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
The event's guest speaker will be Dr. Dolphus Weary, author of "I Ain't Coming Back" and Founder of The Rural Education and Leadership Christian Foundation and Mission Mississippi. Mu Gamma Lambda will present awards to distinguished residents of the Hattiesburg community, while also paying tribute to one of its deceased members, Douglass T. Baker, who was instrumental in establishing the event.
“Each year the Men of Alpha Fraternity pause in recognition of the life of Brother Martin Luther King, Jr. As we observe the news of today, a call to attention of the teachings of Dr. King is appropriate for our guidance,” said Southern Miss Dean of Students Dr. Eddie Holloway, who is coordinating the event.
“For those persons that witnessed his life and works, as well as those that only read of his life of public service, Dr. King left a footprint for the betterment of humanity worldwide. We pray his spirit will lead and guide us in our daily walk to serve others.”
